Anthropic launches Claude Duet

Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet on 21 October 2026.

Anthropic launches Claude Duet

About the news

It is a standalone app in which Claude works as a proactive agent rather than waiting for a prompt. The company describes it as a tool for professionals and small business owners who have more to track than they can easily manage on their own.

Duet is built around Claude Opus 5.5. It carries over the memory, skills, and connected apps from a user’s existing Claude account, so setup is limited. Each morning it sends a short brief on the most important items across connected apps. Through the day it checks those apps at intervals and messages the user only when something needs attention. Users can also hand it tasks ranging from scheduling meetings to building dashboards, financial forecasts, prototypes, or web apps. The work runs on its own cloud virtual machine with a browser, so it can continue after the user’s phone or laptop is closed.

Key points from Anthropic’s announcement:

  • Available as a research preview by waitlist for US Pro and Max subscribers
  • Included in existing Pro and Max plans and uses the same usage limits
  • Standalone apps for iOS and Android, plus access on claude.ai
  • Connects to more than 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace
  • Asks for approval before sending a message, making a payment, signing a document, or deleting anything
  • Does not directly see passwords; a classifier helps guard against sharing sensitive information
  • Anthropic notes that it can still misjudge urgency and is less suited to personal errands such as booking tickets

What’s next

The product is still early. Anthropic is adding people gradually and has said it will keep tuning the system based on feedback from early users. Team and Enterprise plans are not included in the current preview.
