How we built a live virtual classroom that connects students with verified teachers for 1:1 and group learning, with scheduling, payments and recording across web and mobile.
Project overview
Klass Online is a live, interactive virtual classroom connecting students with verified teachers for real-time 1:1 and group learning. Students discover teachers, book sessions, and attend live classes, while teachers manage availability, host sessions, and earn through online teaching. The platform supports group programs, payments, session recording, teacher verification, and administrative oversight.
The challenge
Finding the right teacher, arranging live sessions, and maintaining a reliable experience is difficult when scheduling, payments, and session management are handled separately. Students need to find teachers by subject, availability, and ratings, and trust depends on verification, recordings, cancellation policies, and oversight.
Our approach
We considered how students discover teachers, how educators manage teaching, and how administrators oversee the experience. Teacher discovery was structured around subjects, availability, and ratings, with trust supported through verification and session controls. Discovery, booking, scheduling, live sessions, and payments were then brought together.
The solution
Students find the right tutor based on subject, availability, and ratings, book 1:1 or group sessions, and join live lessons through integrated video streaming. Teachers manage classes, availability, schedules, and earnings within the same ecosystem.
How Klass Online works
Students explore educators by subject expertise, availability, and ratings, review availability and book a session, then attend scheduled lessons through integrated video conferencing. Session management, recordings, and structured group programs support ongoing learning.
Technical architecture
The web app uses React 18, and the mobile apps are built with Flutter and Dart. The backend runs on Python 3.12, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL 15. Live sessions use the Zoom API/SDK with WebSocket updates, payments run through Stripe/Razorpay and the Koins wallet, and the platform is deployed with Docker, Kubernetes, and Azure Kubernetes Service.
